Today I want to share a new song with you! It's available on Spotify and YouTube.
This is a collaboration with a tremendously talented musician, composer and producer who goes by the name SONGS OF EDEN.
I am so tickled to also share that we met on Instagram of all places! When you know, you know.
The best part of singing on this song for me is that it reminds me of Cirque du Soleil... and I have had a lifelong dream of singing for Cirque du Soleil... but no interest in touring with a circus. Best of both worlds?!
The song is a track #4 on his album "The Casablanca Sessions." Check out this cool teaser video he made...
I have some footage for you from Saturday night at the Orpheum Theatre with Snatam Kaur. One of the best parts was right before this was filmed... she invited me on stage for a song we had not rehearsed: Guru Ram Das Raakho Saranaa-ee.
This song played on repeat throughout my entire birth with my second son (read about my freebirth) here. It's kind of amazing how that happened!
Alright, here is Snatam and I singing her Longtime Sun together.
You know those projects you've been working on for over 7 years? They keep taking the back seat to more pressing projects...
Yes, those ones.
I have just completed something that I have been working on for over 7 years!
It's my first book of spiritual poetry, called CHARM THE SHADOWS. I'm an author!
It is a collection of my favorite poems that I've written since 2011. They chronicle my spiritual journey, motherhood, overcoming fears, breaking through old belief patterns.
When I was growing up in France, people would say "bon appetit" before eating their meal. Then they would plunge their fork and knife into their thoughtfully prepared food, and talk about everything under the sun.
When I moved back to the United States, I noticed people not only found less enjoyment around eating, but they spent nearly the whole meal discussing what was wrong with it!
I became convinced that there was a perfect diet out here and I had to find it.
That is how I came to eat a raw vegan diet for nearly three years of my life. I've also been lacto-ovo vegetarian, lacto-vegetarian, fruitarian, omnivorous, gluten-free, dairy-free, whole foods vegan, macrobiotic...
You name it. I've probably tried it!
When I discovered the teachings of Abraham-Hicks I was reminded about the law of attraction and why it doesn't matter WHAT we eat!
WAIT, did she really just say that?
More and more we hearing that food is the answer to pretty much everything health-related. All the food documentaries are telling us to stop eating added sugar, or stop eating processed fats, or carbs, or animal products, or or or...
You've probably noticed that there is so much "information" out there about food, that mealtime has turned into a very high-stress situation.
After all, there all almost no foods that everyone can agree on. Someone, somewhere, is calling almost every food out there "POISON."
Also, if you've sat down to a meal with another human being lately, you may notice (as I did) the negative self-talk people have around their food:
"Oh I shouldn't be eating this."
"I'm going to pay for this donut later."
"I really shouldn't be eating this many carbs."
"I hope there's no dairy in this..."
I mean, if you find a dining partner who has only positive things to say about what they are eating, consider asking them out more often. They are a rare find indeed!
Because... how we FEEL about the food we eat is what matters. Not the food itself.
Quantum physics has known for a while that it is our perception (which is shaped by our beliefs) that determines our biology. Our thoughts are responsible for our health.
Can you imagine what you are thinking when you are condemning the food you are chewing in that moment? What sort of effect do you think that negativity has on your digestion?
Do you see how it is backwards to look to FOOD to create health for us?
Not convinced?
Watch me explain my rather controversial position on nutrition... you may find A LOT of relief in it.
So please remember to enjoy the food you are eating, and eat things that you enjoy.
Bon appetit (truly)!
Joyfully, Sirgun Kaur
P.S. Here's a nice confirming quote by Yogi Bhajan: "It is not food that matters. It is the spirit behind the food, which matters. Offering a flower to a teacher is nothing. There are so many flowers but the spirit of that offering will let him stay for years with that fragrance. What you call as God is vibration. Prepare the food for your children in love. Make them to eat that. See how beautifully they grow."
I have some more awesome footage from Bhakti Fest to share with y'all. This one begins with a sweet sweet UKULELE SOLO! Yes, that's what I said. I honestly could not believe what an an amazing line-up of musicians I got for this festival. Chad Wilkins plays ukulele like no one I have ever heard.
This song is a trio of English mantras. Words that are meant to reprogram your brain to make you know your excellence and strength.
This is exciting! I was asked to contribute an article on the HEALING POWER OF MUSIC for Awaken Center of Human Evolution's Blog!
Here I tell the story of how I came to meet the producers of Bhakti Fest, how I was asked to sing response vocals for C.C. White (still so grateful!), and how I came to be in the right place at the right time--again and again and again. Thank you Awaken: Center for Human Evolution for publishing this blog article!
